The ICRA 2007 meeting took place in Leuven from June 17th to June
20th, 2007.
Leuven is very central in Belgium at only about 25 kilometers to the
east of Brussels, and Brussels airport is in between Brussels and
Leuven, at only a 15 minutes direct train ride from the airport to
Leuven.
Leuven is a small city with a very rich medieval history, it
is called an open air museum of the past with impressive town hall,
abbeys, churches, beguinages, old market squares, etc. Because of its
central location, Leuven was very actively submersed in a lot of the
major big events in European history. At present Leuven is mostly
known nationally and internationally for beer and students, which
sometimes may go nicely together. The university is one of the oldest
universities in the world (I think even the oldest across the alps)
and InBev is number 1 beer brewer in the world (Stella Artois, etc.).
Both have influenced daily life in Leuven. In the very old
surroundings about 30000 students and numerous cafés and restaurants
on market squares find their place.
Leuven can be about 2 hours away from Paris, Amsterdam, London. The
very interesting cities of Brugge, Antwerp, Gent, Brussels are all
within 1 hour travel time.
You can have a short look at the Leuven city website
Leuven city website , and the
website of the university .
